Rani Mukerji had taken the cinemas by storm in 2014, after her film Mardaani released on the big screens. A badass female cop, unapologetically kicking asses of bad people. Fans were left in awe of the actress.
As the movie went on to become a box office hit, the makers decided to make it into a franchise. The second installment of the film was released in 2019, with Vishal Jethwa essaying the role of the antagonist. Now, seven years after the last film, the actress is all set to return as Shivani Shivaji Roy in the third installment of the film.

Dressed in her signature black shirt, denim pants and boots, the actress is seen posing with a gun in her hand. The makers announced that the film will be released on February 27, 2026.
The captioned the post, “The countdown begins for #Mardaani3! While many flooded the comment section with red heart and fire emojis, others expressed their excitement.
One even expressed their desire to see Shivani making an entry into the Spy Universe. One wrote, “Bring her in the Spy universe.” Another wrote, “She is brutal this time.

While Mardaani was directed by Pradeep Sarkar, Mardaani 2 was directed by Gopi Puthran. For those who don’t know, Minawala has worked with YRF as an assistant director on many films like Tiger 3 , Sultan , and Gunday , to name a few.
He had made his directorial debut with Aayush Sharma and Warina Hussain starrer Loveyatri .
