A brother kicked and punched his sister repeatedly after a violent row flared at their terminally-ill mother's home. The brother's fury erupted when he found his mother laid on the ground on her doorstep after a confrontation with her daughter. Grimsby Crown Court heard the mother was terminally-ill at the time the violence flared at 1am on June 30 last year.
Jamie Rees, 29, of Boynton Crescent, Winterton, admitted assault causing actual bodily harm at the address in Barton last summer. Prosecuting, Claire Holmes told how Rees had been celebrating at a wedding earlier in the day and had been drinking. CCTV from the property showed the estranged sister arriving at 1am and banging loudly on the door of her mother's home.
She was told to leave, and at some point, the mother ended up on the floor, although this was not seen on camera. The footage then showed Rees emerge from the home and shout at his sister: "I have told you not to bring your s**t to mum's house." There was a violent confrontation.
He pulled her by her hair into the garden outside, said Miss Holmes. Violence continued in the street when the sister was joined by two males . The prosecutor said she suffered grazes to her head and face and a swollen lip.
Mitigating, Fintan Molloy said his client lost his job as a carer following the incident. "He saw his mother on the floor and jumped to the conclusion. "He saw red and was overcome by anger.
He is grateful he did not cause serious harm to his sister," he said. Mr Molloy added: "He has struggled to watch the CCTV and he is overcome with remorse." Judge Gurdial Singh told Rees: "Your involvement was disgraceful.
" He said he acknowledged the incident had "come to your door." He imposed a nine month prison sentence, suspended for 12 months. He will wear a drunk tag for 120 days and complete 10 Rehabilitation Activity Requirement days, along with 150 hours of unpaid work.
