Bury Football Club has teamed up with a sportswear retail giant following their victorious win last weekend. The club announced last night that they will be sponsored by Bury-based JD Sports , whose head office is located in Unsworth. Bolton-born Peter Cowgill was executive chairman of JD Sports a position he held for 18 years before stepped down in 2022.
This partnership comes at an important time for the Club, who were recently crowned champions of the North West Counties Football League Premier Division (NWCFL) just six years after being removed from the English Football League (EFL) in 2019. A league record-breaking 8,719 fans packed into Gigg Lane for the final game of the season on Saturday, April 19, which elevated them to promotion after a 46-match league campaign.
