Storms and downpours drenched Los Angeles over the weekend as up to 11 inches of snow blanketed some regions of The Golden State in what marked an unusual bout of wintery weather . However, the region is set to experience a weather whiplash this week amid a significant warmup. As the weekend’s storm moves out, temperatures are set to climb across the state as most of California will experience a sunny and warm start to the week.
But the weather rollercoaster could continue as another storm could roll in. Forecasters predict the first weekend of May could bring more wet and snowy weather to California , which is likely to be beneficial as dry season gets underway. Sunny start to the week in California before another weekend storm The tail end of the month has seen California experiencing some unusual winter-like weather, with downpours in Los Angeles while mountainous regions got a flurry of snow but that’s set to change this week.
“This weekend we got back to the winter schedule but that’s not going to stay the theme as we head into next week,” CBS meteorologist Ashley Nanfria said. She explained: For the most part our storm is on the way out. As it moves across portions of Nevada, Idaho, right now setting the scene for even some severe weather across portions of the plains as it’ll continue to track off towards the east over the next several days.
But for us, a quieter weather pattern is in store as we head into the start of the week.” Monday will get off a sunny and pleasant start across most of the state and temperatures will continue to climb through the middle of the week. However, another storm system could be making its way over in time for the weekend, bringing more rain and even some snow.
Northern California hit hardest by weather rollercoaster The week will get off to a cooler start in San Diego with highs of 66F, temperatures will remain similar throughout much of the week until highs drop to the low 60s on Saturday, when it will be breezy with a couple of showers. In Los Angeles, temperatures will be warmer, starting with highs of 69F on Monday before climbing into the early 70s over the following days and the region is unlikely to be affected by the weekend’s storm, with the weather remaining sunny and pleasant. However, further north the weather rollercoaster will be much more noticeable.
The San Francisco Bay Area is bracing itself for a significant warmup, with temperatures reaching the upper 70s on Tuesday and Wednesday and even going as high as the low 80s in parts of the North Bay and East Bay hills. It comes after Saturday and Sunday saw temperatures dip 10 to 15 degrees below normal. Temperatures are expected to drop off again towards the end of the week with a potential storm system moving in.
“Mainly focusing on our higher elevations at first by Friday evening and then Saturday morning we’ll have the chance of a few showers across portions of the valley, light snow as well around the Sierra - mainly high elevations,” Ashley noted. Temperatures climb in California at the start of the week Monday morning will get off to a cool start across much of the state but by the afternoon temperatures are set to begin climbing again, reaching the upper 70s and low 80s across the valley. No matter where you are, there is likely to be plenty of sunshine on Monday.
Temperatures will continue to rise throughout the week. “As we look at our weather pattern it’s all thanks to this, a ridge of high pressure building in as that storm system continues to track off towards the east, as that ridge builds in it’s gonna continue to warm us up throughout the middle part of the week, temperatures getting back into the 80s throughout the week ahead,” Ashley explained. Storm system could make a return to California by the weekend However, by the end of the week temperatures could drop and wet and snowy weather could make a return by Saturday and into the rest of the weekend.
Ashley stated: “We do have some changes on the way, including another storm system. We’re keeping a close eye on it as we know the track could change over the next few days but right now it is showing good signs for the return of a few scattered showers across the valley, foothills, and around the Sierra. We’ll keep a little snow in the forecast too.
” More snow and rain could be beneficial for California While many residents may be thankful for the warmer temperatures and sunny weather this week, another weekend storm could actually be very beneficial for the state. California ’s dry season is just around the corner and another bout of rain and snow could help to delay the fire season by keeping fuels moist a little longer and buying the region a little extra time. Still, Californians have been urged to prepare for wildfire season by clearing debris from roofs and gutters, trimming trees and grass, and sealing all cracks and openings larger than an eighth of an inch to prevent embers from entering your home.
