ALEX Callender is back to boost Wales’ bid for a first Six Nations win under Sean Lynn against Ireland at Rodney Parade on Sunday (kick-off 3pm). The vice-captain returns from a foot injury to start at number eight with Georgia Evans shifting from the back row to lock. Kelsey Jones is preferred to Carys Phillips at hooker with Kayleigh Powell continuing at fly-half despite the return from injury of Lleucu George, who is among the replacements.
Wales started with a narrow defeat in Scotland before being overpowered by England in Cardiff and France in Brive. Head coach Lynn said: “This is our final game at home in the Guinness Six Nations and we need to keep building our performances and to focus on expanding our style of play and what we want to achieve as a squad. “The players have bought into the attacking game we are implementing but we need to work harder for each other and to turn the pressure moments we are creating into points.
“We know what Ireland will bring, and they have proved their quality throughout the tournament. “The players have been told to be brave and to express themselves and they have a licence to inspire on the field. “We know Ireland will pose a real challenge, but it’s challenge we are looking forward to and one that we are relishing.
” Wales have won three of the last six Test matches against Ireland, including a 31-5 win in Cardiff two years ago. They will hope to follow the lead of the men's Under-20s, who stunned the Irish in Newport in the Six Nations earlier this year..
