A National Trust estate in Cambridgeshire is going to be revealing an array of very cute baby animals soon. Wimpole Estate’s Home Farm is looking forward to a new seasonal celebration this spring – perfect for a family day out. Alongside the traditional lambing flock, the new ‘Springing to Life’ event features adorable new-borns, including piglets, goat kids, calves, and chicks.
It begins on Saturday, April 26 and runs until May 11 – and the celebration invites visitors to witness the full chorus of spring as the farm welcomes its newest arrivals. Expanding on its popular lambing season, this joyful event is also a great opportunity to learn about the importance of conserving these animals. Watch these young animals take their first steps and explore their new surroundings while you find more about the rare breeds that call Wimpole home.
Emma Warner, farm manager at the National Trust’s Wimpole Estate, said: “Having always celebrated lambing time here at Wimpole Estate, this spring it will be exciting to be able to show off all of the many new arrivals on the farm at once! I really enjoy sharing this busy and exciting time with our visitors, as we follow the stories of all of our farmyard families.” Home Farm is the only in-hand farm of its kind within the National Trust and it serves as a working model for sustainable agriculture – the farm was built in 1794. As one of the UK’s largest centres for rare breeds, Wimpole plays a vital role in the conservation of traditional livestock, including Irish Moiled and Shetland cattle, Oxford Sandy and Black pigs, Bagot goats, and rare-breed sheep.
These animals can be seen in the paddocks, grazing in the parkland, or nestled in the traditional farmyard. It’s fun for all the family, and a visit to Home Farm's Springing to Life offers a unique opportunity to explore the farm during one of its busiest and most vibrant times of year. You don’t need to book in advance for Springing to Life, but as it’s an outdoor event, the advice is to “dress appropriately for the weather”.
