India is a well-known travel destination, celebrated for its unique culture, rich history, and breathtaking landscapes, attracting both local and international tourists. But is it truly as idyllic as it sounds to be? Recently, Canadian vlogger William Rossy took to Instagram to share his “shocking" experience after spending five weeks in the country, concluding that while the journey was eye-opening, he wouldn’t choose to live in India.

Sharing a string of pictures highlighting the shocking learnings travelling in India taught him, he wrote in the caption, “I’ve travelled to 37 countries, and India has to be the most shocking. The things you see, hear, smell, and taste you encounter will make you think, feel, and act in ways you never imagined. While I’d never live there personally, spending 5 weeks travelling over the country gave me lessons I didn’t realise I needed.

" He added, “And that is the power of travel. It encourages you to turn into versions of yourself that cannot be awakened in your normal daily routine." One of the first lessons William shared from his time in India was the importance of gratitude.

“Not enough gratitude is shown for having a roof over our head and food in the fridge," he wrote. Reflecting on the stark contrasts in life experiences, he added, “Two people, one planet. Born on opposite ends, and given two total sets of problems to deal with.

" In another post, he highlighted the privilege of downtime, writing, “I should be more thankful for being allowed a ‘rest day.’" But hey! Not everything was bad. He also talked about the Indian spices and stated that they “hit differently.

" Also, emphasising the beauty of the Taj Mahal, he expressed, “It is underrated. It’s 100x more beautiful in real life." Talking about the local residents, he added, “People are insanely friendly here.

We need to be more curious, interested and less transactional." As soon as the post was shared online, it captured the viewer’s attention. While some were pleased that he dropped a post on India, others found it “sad," adding that his “life lessons" did not capture the actual spirit of India.

An Instagram user wrote, “If you visited India and that’s all you took away from it, that’s sad." Another one commented, “Sorry you weren’t able to see the more positive aspects of India. Also, the things you mention may be learned by visiting New York City; there is no need to go around the world for that.

" One of them stated, “Love that you love our India. Thank you for sharing your core takeaways from this trip." A comment reads, “I love how you see and acknowledge both sides of the country.
