“As of now, there are no plans for such project this year. We will see how the situation goes,” he told reporters at the ‘Majlis Ramah Tamah Aidilfitri’ event. The event, organised by Komuniti Madani Sri Rajang and Pawe (Pusat Aktiviti Warga Emas) Sibu, was held at Lakis Hall here on Friday night.

Responding to public complaints about limited parking at the hospital, Ling recalled that 245 parking lots were added under the first two phases of the project. He noted that nearly half of those are currently taken up by a temporary field hospital set up during the Covid-19 pandemic.“If that facility is dismantled, about 70 parking bays could be freed up for public use,” he said.

Ling further disclosed that some had proposed building a multi-storey carpark through a public-private partnership, similar to a model used in Kuching.“But at the moment, we have yet to see any individual stepping forward to volunteer themselves to undertake the construction of a multi-storey car park at Sibu hospital.“So, my plan is, if there is still available land at Sibu hospital, I may consider a third phase of parking development there in future.

“However, I don’t have any plans for this year. Perhaps next year, I’ll reassess the situation,” he said.Present at the event were Pawe Sibu chairman Abang Hashim Dato Sri Abang Zainuddin, Sibu District Information officer Zaidi Morshidi, and Sibu Municipal Council deputy chairman Mohammed Abdullah Izkandar Roseley.
