In support of Prostate Cancer UK's Boys Need Bins initiative, the shopping centre has installed clearly marked disposal bins for incontinence products in its men's toilets. David Pickett, centre manager at Castlepoint, said: "When we first learned about the Boys Need Bins campaign from a member of staff, it became clear how important it was to provide a discreet and hygienic solution for men at Castlepoint." Posters have also been put up in the men's toilets, providing information on where to find support for health concerns.
The campaign aims to raise awareness about male incontinence and related health issues, such as prostate cancer. According to Prostate Cancer UK, inadequate disposal options for incontinence products can cause distress and isolation for those affected. The charity is also working to break the stigma surrounding these issues.
In addition to supporting the Boys Need Bins campaign, Castlepoint has also introduced posters to raise awareness of testicular cancer. The posters encourage men to perform a simple self-check for lumps, swelling or pain as early detection could save lives. The centre's efforts extend beyond the shopping complex.
On Saturday, March 29, eight members of the Castlepoint team participated in the March for Men event organised by University Hospitals Dorset NHS Charity. The 5k walk from Bournemouth to Boscombe was sponsored by Castlepoint, with each participant's entry fee paid by the shopping centre. Mr Pickett said: "Testicular cancer is the most common cancer among young men, and by promoting self-check awareness, we hope to support our shoppers and staff to take control of their health with dignity.
"At Castlepoint, we believe every retail destination should provide an inclusive and supportive environment for all and we’re proud to lead the way in promoting health diversity. "We hope other shopping destinations will follow suit and implement solutions that support men's health." The centre's support of the Boys Need Bins campaign and its other initiatives are part of its wider commitment to promoting health diversity and creating an inclusive, welcoming environment for both shoppers and staff.
