While he conceded that he understood the reasoning behind the decision, Cedric confessed he "was a little disappointed, for sure.

We created the idea, and we intentionally tried to use an episode of The Neighborhood that we had in order to shoot it," Cedric further explained. In a conversation with TV Line, he admitted, "They're not spending a lot of money..
. they're just kind of workshopping ideas. We thought we did a great job, but ultimately there wasn't enough room in the budget for what we had.
" Despite the setback, a pilot for the spinoff will still be broadcast as part of the Season 7 finale's second half. Cedric has hinted that the pilot will certainly leave fans wanting more. He said: "I want everybody to write in [to CBS] because I think people are going to see this season finale and be, like, 'That's a great show! Y'all should do that show!" While the Malcolm and Marty spinoff featuring Cedric won't be materializing, fans of The Neighborhood can anticipate a new addition to the franchise.
An upcoming spinoff titled Crutch will introduce a fresh character to the series. The character, Francois "Crutch" Crutchfield, who is Calvin's cousin, will be portrayed by Tracy Morgan. The show will explore how his once solitary life becomes bustling again when his children move in with him.
Kecia Lewis will also star in the spinoff as Crutch's sister-in-law, Antoinette. The inaugural season of Crutch will consist of eight episodes. Cedric shared: "We shot eight episodes.
We put together a really great cast, and it was fun to do some guest appearances." Crutch will be available for streaming on Paramount+ and will feature the return of some fan-favorite characters, including Cedric's Calvin and Tichina Arnold's Tina. Max Greenfield will also make an appearance as Dave.
The spinoff is slated to premiere sometime in the fall..
