VACAVILLE — A bevy of events are slated as the Peña Adobe Historical Society celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month at its open house on Saturday. Hours are 11 a.m.
to 3 p.m. at Peña Adobe Park, 1 Pena Adobe Road, between Vacaville and Fairfield.
Experience the dancers of Son Dé Metztli Grupo Folklorico! Founded by Karina Barragan in Vallejo, the group strives to preserve Mexican culture, customs and traditions through ballet folklorico dance. Instructor Gabriela Rodriguez’s students include dancers from 5 years to young adults. Visitors can meet Francisco Pulido of Rancho El Zapotillo in Dixon, performing his roping skills.
He has been roping for 40 years. His horse, Brownie, will accompany him. Listen to El Mariachi Los Jaguares de Willis Jepson, the only academic mariachi ensemble in Solano County.
It features violins, viola, trumpets, guitarrón, vihuela, and guitar. Visitor will hear an energetic setlist of traditional Mexican music and other styles. Educators Sergio Cabada and Justin Au, direct the seventh and eighth grade the musicians at Willis Jepson Middle School in Vacaville.
Docents will offer tours of the Peña Adobe, Museum and ground. Youth can make a corn husk doll and meet Darlene Peña Coombs, a 5th generation descendent of the Peña family. Picnic lunches are welcome.
