Civil Service United Coach Abasi Makawa believes it is just a matter of time before his charges rediscover their winning formula. This comes after Civil have lost two consecutive matches by 1-0 margins against Karonga United and newly promoted side Ekhaya FC. But Makawa said he was confident of turning around the team’s fortunes.
“It happens in football and [there is] no need to press the panic button. We will rectify all the mistakes,” Makawa said. Civil have another tough assignment this weekend as they will face Mzuzu City Hammers in an Airtel Top 8 quarterfinal first leg match at Mzuzu Stadium on Sunday.
Makawa said the boys were in good shape ahead of the match. Before the start of the season, Civil beefed up the squad with players such as Chifundo Damba and Emmanuel Muyira. On the other hand, they lost defender Masiya Manda to Mighty Wanderers.
Attacking midfielder Festus Duwe, who was on loan from Ascent Soccer, joined Silver Strikers. On the other hand, Hammers had contrasting fortunes in the opening two weeks of the TNM Super League. Hammers bounced back from a 3-1 home loss to Kamuzu Barracks as they defeated Premier Bet Dedza Dynamos 0-1 at Dedza Stadium on Sunday.
Hammers coach Steve Mkwinika said the team was focusing on the match against Civil. “Our preparations are going well. Morale is high in camp,” he said.
Last season, Civil finished on position five in the TNM Super League with 43 points, five points below Hammers, who finished fourth..
