Cliff collapse warning issued after new crack appears at beauty spot

The National Trust has advised residents to avoid the cliff edges following the appearance of a new crack in the cliffs at Birling Gap

A large crack has appeared in a cliff face in East Sussex. The National Trust is warning residents to stay away from cliff edges following a new crack discovered at Birling Gap. Birling Gap and Crowlink, near Eastbourne in East Sussex, are part of the world famous Seven Sisters chalk cliffs, one of the longest stretches of undeveloped coastline on the south coast.

A spokesperson for National Trust said: “A crack has appeared in the cliffs at Birling Gap. "This could collapse at any time.



"For your own safety, always stay well away from the cliff edges when visiting.” The National Trust issues regular reminders to walkers to remain aware of the risks and to stay away from cliff edges..
