By Peter [email protected] MARLBOROUGH — So far this baseball season the Coatesville High School baseball team has been led by its deep and talented pitching staff. The Red Raiders also play small ball very well and are a fine defensive team.

But, the Red Raiders have sounded an alarm to the rest of the Ches-Mont League that the Coatesvile offense has heated up. Wednesday at Unionville High School, the Red Raiders pounded the host Longhorns for a 22-2 four-inning rout. The win comes two days after the Red Raiders earned an 18-4 victory against Bishop Shanahan.

On Wednesday, Coatesville (10-2 Ches-Mont, 12-2 overall) pounded out 20 hits in four innings and also stole nine bases on the Longhorns (4-7, 5-7).“We just love to compete and play baseball,” Coatesville third baseman Dylan Jeffers said. “Our offense is coming around just when it is getting hot outside.

It is easier to hit in the warm weather and we pounded the baseball today.”Jeffers banged out fur hits, including two doubles, and knocked in three runs. AJ Rubincam had three hits and Chase Charron added four singles in the Red Raiders’ 20 hit onslaught.

Coatesvile scored eight runs in the top of the first inning, as the Red Raiders sent 12 men to the plate against Unionville starter Kyle Michels.Unionville did not help Michels as they committed three errors in the inning and the Red Raiders ran wild on the base paths, stealing five bases in the first inning. With the score 8-1 heading to the top of the third inning, the Red Raiders put the game away.

After the Longhorns got the first out, Rubincam singled to start the Coatesville rally. Nuge Williard reached on an error to put two men on with one out. Charron then ripped an RBI single to make it a 9-1 game.

Shane Monaghan singled to center field to knock in another run and then Jeffers ripped a two run double to the base of the left field wall, and Coatesville had an 11-1 lead.“The team chemistry we have is really tight,” Williard said. “We feel if we can execute, there really is not a team that can beat us.

The pitching staff has been great and now we are heating up just like the weather.”Unionville laced seven hits off Red Raiders ace Sean Kinzler in his four innings of work but it was of little consequence as the Red Raider bats were on fire.Coatesville sent 13 men to the plate in the top of the fourth inning, scoring 10 runs on six hits.

Red Raiders coach Hal Ziegler sent up seven pinch hitters in the fourth inning and nearly everybody on the Coatesville squad contributed in the four inning mercy rule rout.“ Early in the season it seems the pitchers are ahead of the hitters,’ Ziegler said. “Then, it gets warm and the hitters seem to catch up.

Then. late in the season in the playoffs it is a war every game. Every game you have to come ready to play because anybody can beat you.
