'Colchester roadwork chaos has doubled the length of my commute'

Roadworks in Colchester are continuing to cause anger for residents with an increase in morning commute times.

ONCE again Colchester commuters are experiencing long waits in standstill traffic at both ends of the day. The current situation on Clingoe Hill is affecting many motorists, especially those travelling from Tendring into Colchester. My journey into work this week has been extremely frustrating, with my commute time doubling from 20 minutes to 40 minutes due to traffic backing up past Boundary Road.

The issues of queues on Clingoe Hill have existed for a long period of time but the current state of play is causing all manner of problems. Coming from the Wivenhoe side of Essex University to the bottom of Clingoe Hill at 9.30am is currently offering a wait time of around 15 to 20 minutes.

Most would expect a slight bit of traffic at this time, but this is beyond anything we have experienced unless their is a crash. Communication between Essex Highways and the public clearly needs to be improved to increase the flow of traffic and to allow the use of diversion routes. It seems every way you turn across Colchester at the moment you hit some form of roadworks.
