Colombo Strikers and Jaffna Kings' LPL Partnerships Terminated

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), in collaboration with The IPG Group, the event rights holder of the Lanka Premier League (LPL), has officially announced the termination of its franchise partnerships with the Colombo Strikers and Jaffna Kings. The termination of the franchise partnerships comes due to their failure to fulfill the contractual obligations as stipulated under the agreements entered into. In a media release, SLC said, "The IPG Group has formally communicated to SLC that the terminations have been effected due to the respective franchises’ failure to fulfill their contractual obligations as stipulated under the agreements entered into at the commencement of their participation in the league."

In a media release, SLC said, "The IPG Group has formally communicated to SLC that the terminations have been effected due to the respective franchises’ failure to fulfill their contractual obligations as stipulated under the agreements entered into at the commencement of their participation in the league.

" Adding that the forthcoming edition of the Lanka Premier League will feature franchises representing Colombo and Jaffna under "new ownership". IPG said in the release: "As the event rights holder, the IPG Group retains the exclusive rights over the LPL franchise teams and, accordingly, is vested with the authority to transfer and/or assign the ownership rights of the said franchises to interested parties." The Lanka Premier League is a professional cricket league in Sri Lanka, started in 2020.



It features five teams named after Sri Lankan cities. The league was originally planned to begin in 2018, but it was delayed several times by Sri Lanka Cricket. The first season took place in 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Currently, five seasons of the LPL have been held. The current champions are the Jaffna Kings, who won their fourth title in 2024 by defeating Galle Marvels in the final..
