Colorado will retire Travis Hunter’s and Shedeur Sanders’ jerseys as part of Saturday’s spring game, the school announced Monday. Hunter, a two-way star who played the last two seasons at Colorado after following coach Deion Sanders from Jackson State, won the Heisman Trophy as college football’s most outstanding player during the 2024 season. Advertisement Sanders, Deion’s youngest son, threw 64 touchdown passes in two years as a Colorado’s starting quarterback after following his father from Jackson State, too.
In 2024, Sanders set the school’s single-season record for passing yards, with 4,134. Colorado has retired just four jersey numbers in the program’s 122-year history. Byron “Whizzer” White’s No.
24, Joe Romig’s No. 67, Bobby Anderson’s No. 11 and Rashaan Salaam’s No.
19 are the only other jerseys that Colorado’s football program has retired. Salaam’s No. 19 was the most recent.
The Buffaloes retired his jersey in 2017, more than 20 years after his career in Boulder concluded. No. 2 & No.

12 and Sanders’ No. 2 will join them. Hunter and Sanders are expected to be first-round selections in next week’s NFL Draft, hosted in Green Bay, Wis.
Both could go as early as the top five. The Athletic ’s Dane Brugler projected in his mock draft that Hunter would be selected as the third pick and Sanders as the 21st. Colorado’s spring game, set for 2:30 p.
m. MT on Saturday, will be broadcast on ESPN. Deion Sanders and Colorado submitted paperwork earlier this spring to host Syracuse for joint practices and a game instead of a traditional intrasquad scrimmage.
