It might not be a health food, but sometimes you just can’t beat a fry up . The Full English is a classic of British cuisine and if you need some protein packed indulgence ahead of a long day of toil, a fry up is still one of the most popular go-to breakfast choices. ..) is the amount of mess it makes.
Frying pans sizzling with oil, spitting fat and leaving egg bits and bacon grease everywhere - a cooked breakfast can quickly turn into a marathon washing up session. That’s why some foodies are increasingly turning to the microwave to make their fried food - it’s quicker, healthier and much less messy. BBC Good Food says to microwave bacon, lay rashers on a plate lined with some kitchen roll.
If you prefer bacon softer, you can pop a lid on top. Then set the microwave to high wattage (if you have the option of changing the wattage). Then microwave the bacon for these times depending on how crispy you like it: Soft bacon (not so crispy) - 45 seconds per rasher Medium crispy bacon - 1 minute per rasher Extra crispy bacon - 2 minutes+ per rasher To make microwave fried eggs , spray or rub a little oil on a dish or deep plate.
Then, crack an egg into the dish. Take a knife and gently pierce the yolk (not enough to actually break it - but this prevents it exploding later), then pop it into the microwave on high for 30 seconds. Leave it to stand for one minute, then check the egg.
If you like it more well done, you can add more 10 second increments to cook it a little more. To add scrambled eggs, first, use a fork to beat the eggs with two tablespoons of milk in a jug. You can also add a pinch of salt here if you want to.
Then stick in the microwave on the highest wattage setting you have for 30 seconds. Beat the eggs again, then return them to the microwave for another 30 seconds. Then, take them out, beat them once more to break up any lumps and zap them for another 15 seconds.
They will now be ready to serve, but if you prefer your scrambled eggs a little firmer, you can put them in for 15 second increments at a time to firm them to your liking. Baked beans in the microwave are easy peasy. Just pop them in a bowl or jug, put them in for 1 minute, stir, then another 1 minute.
For an extra burst of flavour mix in some barbecue sauce, which is a cheap way to get BBQ beans. You can also microwave sausages. These take a little longer, so you might want to skip them on your microwave fry up if you’re time pressed.
Simply separate them, prick the skins (to prevent exploding), then blast them on full power for 6-8 minutes (if you have six sausages). The only thing you can’t microwave here is your toast - but even trying a few of your Full English ingredients in the microwavé can help save valuable time - and a lot of oil and frying pan mess..
