1 2 3 Pune: The Pune Rural police are searching for a three-member gang after as many as six cases of robbery have been reported to the Baramati taluka police in a fortnight. The police said items and cash worth Rs 1.50 lakh has been robbed in these cases.

A 30-year-old daily wage worker on April 17 stated in his complaint with the Baramati taluka police that on April 7 he went to pick up his father, who works in a private company in Baramati. While he was waiting on the other side of the road, his father was walking towards him. Three men on a motorcycle stopped his father and asked him for his cellphone.

When the man refused to give the cellphone, the trio beat him and snatched his handset, he said. "It happened in front of the complainant. Before he could rush to his father's help, the trio drove away from there," the officer said.

The same trio on beat up a 61-year-old retired SRPF personnel, who was waiting for a bus at the bus stand in Baramati to go home to Solapur on April 14. The suspects thrashed him with sticks and snatched his cellphone and Rs 9,000 cash, the officer said. The officer said the gang was involved in four more such robberies.

Their modus operandi was the same. They used to identify lonely people, mostly private company workers, beat them with sticks and rob their cellphones and cash. "We received six complaints so far in which cash, gold jewellery and cellphones collectively worth over Rs 1.

50 lakh were robbed. We are working on some clues. Our investigations are on," the officer said.
