Times News Network Ludhiana: A police team which went to apprehend a man accused of blackmailing a minor girl was attacked by relatives of the accused. The accused was initially nabbed but his relatives attacked the police and facilitated his escape. Police arrested three of the nine persons who attacked them.
A head constable suffered injuries, and his uniform was also torn during the skirmish. Police said that the main accused was wanted in a case of extortion and blackmail of a minor girl. He was rounded up on a tip-off.
An FIR has been registered under sections 221 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 132 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 262 (resistance or obstruction by a person to his lawful apprehension), 263 (resistance or obstruction to lawful apprehension of another person), 191(2) (rioting, armed with deadly weapons), 190 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object) of BNS against the accused. Police said that the case against the accused and his aides was filed on the complaint of the minor girl's mother. The accused allegedly filmed while bathing and the accused used the video to demand money from her.
