NEXT weekend marks the 10-year anniversary of Danny Jones’ tragic passing. The Wales international was playing for Keighley Cougars when he suffered a cardiac arrest shortly after being taken off in a game against London Skolars. Despite desperate attempts to resuscitate the 29-year-old, he died later that evening.

Cougars have always kept his legacy alive, notably retiring his number six shirt, before handing it to new signing Izaac Farrell this season. Izaac Farrell is continuing the legacy of the number six shirt worn by Danny Jones, which was officially un-retired in December 2024. That deliberately nods to Jones' Welsh heritage, with red, white and green all featuring predominantly. Another event is coming up next weekend to pay tribute to the half back too, with Cougars’ 2015 side taking to the field to play a charity game against the Silverbacks Rugby League legends, the two sides playing for the right to win the Danny Jones Cup. It will take place at Cougar Park on Saturday, May 3, exactly 10 years to the day from Jones’ death, with kick-off at 3pm.

There will be activities on offer for kids to enjoy, a DJ, while the £5 entry fee will go towards The Danny Jones Defibrillator Fund..
