Keighley Cougars have confirmed that former Leeds Rhinos and Hunslet coach Danny Burton has been added to Alan Kilshaw’s backroom staff.

Keighley Cougars have confirmed that Danny Burton has been added to Alan Kilshaw’s coaching staff. Burton, an ex-Hunslet Hawks player, joins head coach Kilshaw and assistant Jordie Hedges at Cougar Park, bringing a wealth of experience at professional and amateur levels to the role. More recently, Burton has spent time at Leeds Rhinos as an assistant coach within the Super League side’s academy and reserves set up.

Burton has worked with Kilshaw before at Hunslet, the duo working in tandem to help the Parksiders come second and reach the Betfred League 1 play-offs in 2023. They helped lay the foundations for Dean Muir to take the side up the following year, and Cougars will be hoping that the pair can remain an equally dynamic partnership now they have been reunited in BD21. Kilshaw admitted he was delighted to have secured Burton’s services, telling the club website: “Danny is someone I trust.

“He is very defence-orientated and compliments Jordie really well. “He’s been here a few weeks now and some of the fruits of his labour are starting to show.” Kilshaw also wanted to sing the praises of another key member of his backroom team.

He said: “Alongside Jordie and Danny, I am pleased to work with (strength and conditioning coach) Adam Mitchell. “He’s someone I have known in the game a long time and I respect his approach, so I’m glad to be working with him.”.
