Bury Council has shared that it is working on a plan to bring Ramsbottom Market back town centre after it closed down earlier this year.

Bury Council is developing a plan to bring a weekly market back to Ramsbottom town centre after it closed earlier this year. The traditional market first came to the town more than 40 years ago and took place each Saturday on the car park behind Bridge Street. It became a staple for locals and visitors to pick up fresh fruit, fish and bread along with other goods sold by its regular and casual stallholders.

Cllr Charlotte Morris, Cabinet Member for Culture, Economy and Skills, said: “We are working on a permanent solution to reinstate the Ramsbottom Market.

“Alongside this, we are also looking into a temporary solution to bring back a regular market in Ramsbottom to support the Town Centre and local businesses. “Local councillors are working with council officers to shape what will be delivered in consultation with Ramsbottom’s community.” Ramsbottom hosts several seasonal farmers, food and artisanal markets throughout the year and thousands of people descend on the town each summer for the famous annual World Black Pudding Throwing Championships.
