Laura and Dan, from Plymouth, were the lucky winners of Poole Business Improvement District's (BID) competition, which asked people to share how they met their partner, including any "romantic or quirky details". The competition had more than 1,900 entries, but Laura and Dan's love story stood out. Their story began when Laura's car broke down on the hard shoulder while she was driving from Plymouth to Swansea in heavy rain four years ago.
Dan stopped to help, as he had the same car as Laura and spare oil in his boot. As he prepared to leave, Dan asked, "This seems really strange, but do you think I could call you sometime?" Laura said yes. They are now inseparable and have exchanged commitment rings.
As winners, Laura and Dan were treated to a two-night stay at Hotel Du Vin in Poole, as well as a series of other experiences around the town. They were taken for breakfast and brunch, given a ceramic pottery class and taken on a scenic cruise around Poole Harbour. Poole BID chief executive Jacqui Rock said: "We are so pleased that Dan and Laura had such a great experience and enjoyed the opportunity to discover the amazing variety of things that Poole has to offer.
