Cowboys seeking trade for AFC North wide receiver to join CeeDee Lamb, Dak Prescott

The Dallas Cowboys remain without an obvious No. 2 wide receiver. CeeDee Lamb is a superstar, yes.

And Dak Prescott can make lots of wideouts look pretty good. But a lot of the pressure would be taken off everyone else if the Cowboys acquired a true WR2. ESPN's Todd Archer recently suggested they were looking into one.

"Leading up to the draft, the Cowboys had discussions with an AFC North team regarding a veteran wide receiver, but nothing came to fruition," Archer wrote . Other names that could fit that description are Browns receiver Jerry Jeudy and Ravens receiver Rashod Bateman.

Pickens has been involved in trade rumors because he likely won't get a big contract extension from the Steelers after they gave one to DK Metcalf. But apparently the Cowboys and this mystery AFC North team didn't have the matching parts. That doesn't mean a deal won't be revisited as the season gets closer.

Necessity often dictates action, and the Cowboys certainly have a need.
