Critics condemned as “sickening” and “despicable” the response that supporters of Donald Trump had to footage of alleged foreign gang members being removed from America that was aired during the president’s rally in Warren, Michigan, on Tuesday. The crowd cheered and chanted “USA! USA! USA!” after the clip concluded. Trump had teed up the video, claiming “the worst of the worst are being sent to a no-nonsense prison in El Salvador.

” “Watch this. Watch this. Take a look,” he urged the audience.

The video showed alleged undocumented gang members being taken to the CECOT mega-prison in El Salvador, having their heads shaved and placed inside metal cages. “100 Days of Greatness” then appeared in text on the big screen, referring to Trump’s first 100 days back in the White House , of which his rally was ostensibly a celebration. Trump, who vowed during his 2024 campaign to deport millions of undocumented immigrants, smiled at the audience’s response.

On social media, Trump supporters lapped up and praised the footage — with many calling it “fucking awesome.” Critics, though, slammed the “dehumanization” of those featured in the video. Related.
