The SMS Group spent seven weeks working on the AIDAdiva in Marseille, which is the first cruise ship to go through the Evolution programme. The refurbishment of the 252-metre vessel, which can carry up to 2,050 passengers, included new technology, upgraded staterooms, restaurants and entertainment areas. Close to 100 skilled personnel from the company were allocated to the project, including joiners, decorators, galley installation engineers, tiling, heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) specialists, lighting and electrical fitters.
They delivered three completely new public areas while renovating a further two. David McCarthy, operations director of SMS Group, said: "Despite the scale of the programme and complexity of works, I’m delighted that we rose to the challenge and delivered these signature venues for AIDA. "The dedication and collaboration between our trusted partners and client undoubtedly led to its success.
"Big thanks to both." The works in the bars and restaurants included new buffet stations and service counter lines, new waiter stations and hand-wash stations. The spaces were also enhanced by reconfigured HVAC and fire prevention systems and a full electrical upgrade of lighting systems and newly installed decorative lighting.
