This ambitious title combines exploration, trading, adventure, and management mechanics within a heavily modified visual novel engine, now refined after five years of steady development and expansion.The game takes place in the Rimshot System, a lawless region brimming with risk and reward.
Players take on the role of a hopeful captain starting out with a modest starship, a minimal crew, and dreams of wealth. The system’s most coveted prize is the Iclantian Comets, remnants of an ancient civilization packed with untold riches and danger. Navigating this universe means taking risks, forging alliances, and making morally gray choices.
There is no fixed story in Crypterion; instead, players shape their journey through decisions, trade routes, and unpredictable encounters. It can shift relationships, unlock new opportunities, or alter the course of the game. The in-game economy is fully dynamic, simulating trade flows across six distinct planets in the Rimshot System.
The prices will rise and fall based on player actions, supply disruptions, and shifting market demands. Passengers play a key role in this system, offering not only payment and ship upgrades but also branching storylines and opportunities for social advancement. Some of them can become allies, others rivals, and a few open access to hidden regions and long-buried secrets.
Built by solo developer Eldon Harris and supported by family members and a dedicated community, Crypterion is a deeply personal project. Harris’ brother developed the dynamic economy and encounter systems, while his sister and mother contributed original art and music. The game’s full release includes all previous updates plus new content, characters, endings, and quality-of-life improvements.
