A father from Crawley is taking on a challenge to raise money for children's charities in memory of his son. Rob Dowling is running six ultramarathons in six days, totalling 186 miles, in memory of his son Oliver, who died in his sleep in 2015 at just two years old. The co-founder of the Oliver’s Wish Foundation began the challenge at the London Marathon on Sunday, April 27, and is running more than a marathon a day until Friday, May 2.

He is joined on the journey by close friend Simon Pilkington. The Chestnut Tree House Children's Hospice in West Sussex has been a major beneficiary of the foundation, alongside SUDC UK, which supports families affected by Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood.

Rob said: "This is by far the hardest thing I’ve ever done. "But every step is for Oliver. "His life was so short, but his impact continues through the work we do.

"We want to help other children and families who are facing incredibly difficult times." Rob and Simon met through work and bonded over a shared love of running.

The two have trained extensively together, with Simon inspired by Rob’s resilience. Simon said: "Watching Rob run with Oliver in his heart is humbling. "This challenge is about more than miles — it’s about memory, love, and helping children who need support.

" To support Rob’s journey and learn more about the challenge, visit the JustGiving page or the Oliver's Wish Foundation website. The Oliver’s Wish Foundation has raised more than £600,000 to date and continues to support children’s hospices, bereavement support organisations, and early childhood education charities. The funds from the 6in6 challenge will go toward continuing this work.

Rob said: "We know the cost-of-living crisis has made it harder for people to donate, but we’re hoping this challenge captures hearts and reminds people what we can achieve when we come together.".
