SAN FRANCISCO — The San Francisco International Arts Festival kicks off Wednesday and runs through May 11. It will include six full length dance and music concerts featuring eight South Asian artist and ensembles. The program takes place in nearly 20 venues in the Mission District.

The multidisciplinary event will feature numerous educational and outreach activities where artists directly interact with members of the public. The Festival's theme continues to be "In Diaspora: I.D.

for the New Majority." "For 10 years we have endeavored to present Indian classical dance with a focus on artists work that takes traditional forms to highlight contemporary sociopolitical issues," said Festival Director, Andrew Wood of the South Asian performances. "Our interest in South Asian music has also grown since our return to the Mission in 2022.

With many South Asian artists based in the Peninsular, and with the Mission being blessed with two BART stations and direct access to Highways 101 and 280, it is easier for artists and audiences to contemplate presenting and attending Festival performances than when we were at Fort Mason." “This year’s programming offers a powerful exploration of cultural traditions and contemporary artistic innovation,” said Andrew Wood, founder of the San Francisco International Arts Festival. “We are thrilled to present these exceptional artists and their compelling works, fostering cross-cultural dialogue and appreciation.
