There are bound to be at least a couple of cornerbacks worth first-round consideration when the Los Angeles Rams go on the clock at No. 26, one of them being Trey Amos from Ole Miss. There are cornerbacks ranked higher by analysts but by the time the Rams are up, Amos could be the top one available – and he’s a perfect fit in L.
A., says NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah.During an interview on “Ricky’s Ram Jam” this week, Jeremiah explained why Amos feels like a Rams-type of player.
“There’s always guys that just kind of feel like Rams players to me – guys that have kind of been consistent through the whole process,” Jeremiah said. “They have a little bit of a track record of what they’re looking for and what they identify and how successful they’ve been. I think it was in my last (mock), it was Trey Amos, the corner from Ole Miss, who’s just a really good football player.
Continues to ace all the tests all throughout the process. And, from a Rams standpoint, they’re all competitive, aggressive, urgent – there’s just an edge to the guys, and I think he plays a little bit like that.”Amos has been projected to land with the Rams in several mock drafts this spring, given the team’s need for cornerback help.
He’s a fringe first-rounder but his combination of size (6-foot-1) and speed (4.43) gives him a high ceiling in the NFL.Last season at Ole Miss, he broke up 13 passes and had three interceptions.
He allowed just 32 receptions on 62 targets, according to PFF, giving up just two touchdowns all season. He mostly lined up outside so he doesn’t have a ton of position flexibility, but adding a lockdown corner would help the Rams significantly on defense. This article originally appeared on Rams Wire: NFL draft analyst says CB Trey Amos is perfect fit for Rams.
