Darren Espanto took a trip down memory lane as he remembered the time he sang during Pope Francis' papal visit to the Philippines in 2015. On Instagram, the “It’s Showtime” host shared a video of himself singing to “Tell the World of His Love." According to Darren, performing for the Pope was an honor.

“[Ten] years ago, I had the privilege of singing for Pope Francis during his visit to the Philippines. It was an honor to be chosen to sing for such a historical event," Darren wrote. "He’s made a huge impact on lives around the world.



May he rest in peace,” he added. Pope Francis' passed away on Monday . His death was announced by the Vatican in a video statement.

He was 88, and had survived a serious bout of double pneumonia. Francis' death comes a day after the pope had made his first prolonged public appearance since being discharged on March 23 from a 38-day hospital stay for pneumonia. Born Jorge Mario Bergoglio in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Francis was the first Latin American Pope.

He was elected pope on March 13, 2013. Aside from Darren, other celebrities who paid homage to the Roman Catholic church leader were Richard Yap , who shared a photo of himself with the Pope while in Vatican City, and Hollywood actor Leonardo DiCaprio , who lauded him for championing the environment.
