Bree Hall has joined Caitlin Clark as a member of the Indiana Fever after she was a second-round draft selection, and Dawn Staley spoke highly of the former South Carolina star

South Carolina head coach Dawn Staley recently Bree Hall is “on my all-time defensive team” - and now she will join Caitlin Clark on the Indiana Fever . While Hall was not one of the big names in attendance and turning heads on the orange carpet at the 2025 WNBA Draft , she did hear her name called. The Fever used the No.

20 overall pick to bring Hall to Indiana. Hall won two NCAA championships with South Carolina , including securing the unbeaten season by defeating Clark’s Iowa . Now, Hall will add defensive presence and acumen to a young and exciting Fever team looking to return to the playoffs.

She will also provide a winning pedigree; Hall is a two-time national champion and reached the NCAA Championship Game three times across her career. She also won three SEC Tournament titles and often locked down the best players in the game. As a result, Staley considers her one of the best defensive players she has ever coached - which is some praise, given the likes of Kamilla Cardoso , Aliyah Boston , and A’ja Wilson have played under the icon.

Staley believes Hall is among the best she’s ever coached. She said: “Bree’s an elite defender. It’s elite – the things that she does, the people that she has to guard.

“In my 25 years of coaching, she’s on my all-time defensive team – all the players that I’ve coached – because she’s very consistent with it, and she relishes the challenge.” While Hall was not in the running for any national defensive awards this or any season of her college career, Staley understands that people were still taking notice. She added: “People are watching.

It’s just not the people who will give credit like other people. Fans and people who really understand what’s happening out there on the floor give her her flowers, and I’m happy that they do.” It seems the 54-year-old was right.

Hall made her name at South Carolina as a standout defender, often taking on the opponent's highest-scoring guard and matching up well with her; in South Carolina's undefeated 2023-24 campaign, she averaged 9.2 points and 2.9 rebounds per game.

Hall is arguably among the best defenders in the WNBA draft class, while she enters the league with lots of experience; she played more games over four years than any other player in South Carolina program history. She also earned the nickname ‘Big Shot Breezy’ thanks to her knack for connecting on key three-point shots in clutch situations. Hall will reunite with Boston in Indiana, who represent two major South Carolina success stories.
