Julia, a former history of art lecturer at Birmingham University, was taken on a special trip by Upton Bay care home to Arts University Bournemouth (AUB). At AUB, she was greeted by Tom Marshall and toured the arts department. Julia, who taught at Birmingham and the Open University, had the chance to visit the Columbian Print and Albion Press Room, which has been in use since 1883.
She also visited the Fine Arts Studio, where she was introduced to Dr Richard Waring and third-year students preparing their degree entries. The students shared their art with Julia, who enthusiastically selected her favourites. Julia's husband said: "It was wonderful to see Julia becoming so animated again, which we haven’t witnessed for years.
" She even had the chance to explore the AI department. Karen, activity lead at Upton Bay care home, said: "It was a pleasure to give Julia such an inspiring and fulfilling wish, organising something that meant so much to her. "It is so rewarding to watch a dementia resident engage so well with younger, like-minded students.
" The care home said this was "a wonderful achievement" for Julia, allowing her to demonstrate her knowledge and passion despite her illness..
