Work has begun to demolish the former World of Water in Hunton Bridge ahead of Lidl's arrival at the site.

The business closed last September after Lidl secured planning permission for a new 1,457-square-metre supermarket at the site in Hunton Bridge, just off the A41. Pictures shared via the have revealed that the process of demolishing the existing building has begun. Lidl first submitted plans for the site back in 2022, only for access concerns to delay the application, which required multiple amendments and two deferrals before being given the green light by Three Rivers District Council.

The final arrangement was to reconfigure the existing way in to make the access road a minimum width of 7.3 metres until reaching the car parking area, and move a pedestrian crossing so that a “ghost island” right turning lane could be created. The completed store is set to offer a 98-space car park for staff and customers.

Solar panels will be installed on the flat roof and woodland planting will be installed to screen the single-storey store from the road. No definitive timeline for Lidl's opening has been shared..
