Detectives charge Rock Hill teenager in shooting death near gas station

Rock Hill police said a shooting death involved two teenagers outside of a convenience store late on the night of April 22.

ROCK HILL — A 16-year-old boy from Chester was shot and killed near a gas station, and another teenager is charged with murder in his death, Rock Hill police and the York County Coroner said. Police went to the QT in the 900 block of South Cherry Road after a report of gunfire there about 11:30 p.m.

April 22. Officers said they arrived and found Jayden Reid with a gunshot wound to his torso. Paramedics took Reid to Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill , where he was pronounced dead.



Detectives identified Carnell Mike, 17, of Rock Hill, as the gunman. Mike had fled to Richburg, where the Chester County Sheriff’s Office and State Law Enforcement Division assisted in taking him into custody. Police charged Mike as an adult with murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime, and possession of a firearm by a person under 18.

The case remains under investigation..
