Qatar tribune Iftikhar Ahmed Malik, a Pakistani resident of Doha, is determined to secure a place in the Guinness World Records after recently completing 108,913 step-ups within 24 hours. Born on April 1, 1964, Malik, who has lived in Doha for several years, took on this challenge with determination and unwavering perseverance, pushing the limits of physical and mental endurance. He began walking on April 19, 2025 at dawn and continued throughout the day, maintaining a high pace and discipline covering 85.

05 kilometres in 24 hours. The previous Guinness World Record of 28,114 step-ups, was set on February 12, 2022, by Indian national Harishankar Yadav from Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India. Before embarking on the challenge, Malik underwent months of rigorous training, focusing on improving physical fitness, enhancing endurance, and maintaining daily health monitoring.

“The official documentation process is currently underway to register this new record in the Guinness World Records. This achievement is not a sudden occurrence but the result of continuous efforts and meticulous planning. I wanted to prove that determination can overcome the impossible,” remarked Malik, who hopes his accomplishment will serve as an inspiration for young people to challenge their limits and unlock their potential.

“Step-ups are a fantastic exercise for young people, offering multiple benefits that go beyond just fitness. Step-ups are a fantastic exercise for building lower-body strength and endurance. It’s an extreme test of stamina and determination.

Whether for athletic training or everyday mobility, step-ups are a simple yet powerful movement that can contribute to strength, stability, and overall physical fitness,” explained Malik. “At 61, my motivation for exercising comes from a deep appreciation for movement and the energy it brings to life. It’s not about chasing youth but embracing vitality—feeling strong, capable, and connected to my body.

As time goes on, I’ve realised that staying active isn’t just about physical health; it’s about keeping my mind sharp, my mood uplifted, and my independence intact. Seeing friends struggle with mobility or health issues has reinforced my commitment to exercise,” he said. “I want to continue exploring the world, keeping up with my loved ones, and proving that age is just a number when it comes to strength and resilience.

Every workout is a reminder that I’m investing in my future self, ensuring that my later years are filled with adventure, confidence, and well-being,” added Malik. Copy 30/04/2025 10.
