President Donald Trump has terminated several Biden-era nominees to the United States Holocaust Memorial Council, including Kamala Harris' husband Doug Emhoff. Emhoff made history as the first Jewish spouse of an American vice president in the country's history, during which the entertainment attorney helped lead efforts to combat antisemitism. Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT Emhoff was among several who were dismissed including Biden's former chief of staff Ron Klain and former domestic policy advisor Susan Rice.
Emhoff has already broken his silence over the firing, taking aim the Trump administration for politicizing one of the greatest tragedies of the last century. "Let me be clear: Holocaust remembrance and education should never be politicized," Emhoff declared. "To turn one of the worst atrocities in history into a wedge issue is dangerous — and it dishonors the memory of six million Jews murdered by Nazis that this museum was created to preserve.
" The firings took place just days after Holocaust Remembrance Day, called Yom HaShoah in the Jewish community, during which Emhoff made an emotional post on social media. "On Yom HaShoah, we remember the six million Jews murdered in the Holocaust and honor the survivors who carry forward their stories," he wrote, attaching images from a visit to the concentration camp in Poland. "I will never forget my visit to Auschwitz-Birkenau—that indelible memory fuels my continued commitment to fight antisemitism and hate in all forms.
