Marcus Dodd, aged 63, was recognised for his commitment to supporting the fund as a volunteer. He won the Above and Beyond category in the RAF Benevolent Fund's annual awards. This was the 13th year of the awards, which recognise the efforts of fundraisers, volunteers and partners.
The 2024 awards were held on Thursday, April 25 at the Sheraton Grand in London, attended by hundreds of RAF personnel and supporters. From Sixpenny Handley, Marcus dedicated more than 120 hours of his time to support the fund in 2024. His main role was to research fundraising prospects.
He also volunteered at events such as RAF Odiham’s Families Day and the Bournemouth Airshow. Marcus was part of the RAF reserves and chose to support the fund as he neared retirement. He said: "I’ve never won anything in my whole life – it feels fantastic.
"My dad who served in the RAF would be so proud." Air Vice-Marshal Chris Elliot, chief executive at the RAF Benevolent Fund, said: "Many congratulations to Marcus on his well-deserved win. "His inspirational commitment, passion and advocacy have been wonderful to see.
