Leon Draisaitl has scored 44 career playoff goals for the Edmonton Oilers, but none were bigger than Sunday night’s OT winner against the LA Kings. The Oilers’ season was hanging in the balance in Game 4 as they trailed L.A.
by a score of 3-2 with less than 30 seconds left in regulation. An Evan Bouchard blast from the point with 28 seconds on the board tied things up, but that only sent things to overtime. One misstep would mean the Kings could end Edmonton’s season as early as Tuesday night.
However, Draisaitl had different plans as he pounced on a rebound late in the first OT period to give the Oilers the win and tie the series at 2-2 heading into Game 5. It was the first-ever playoff OT winner for Draisaitl, and he had a perfect response when asked about it after the game. “I would put it number one [for goals I’ve scored],” Draisaitl told reporters.
“That’s probably the most important goal, to this date, that I’ve scored in my career. “Hopefully, there is a couple more to come that are even more important, but I’ll take that for now.” LEON DRAISAITL COULDN’T HAVE SCORED HIS FIRST CAREER PLAYOFF OVERTIME GOAL AT A BETTER TIME!!️ pic.

The last time Rogers Place celebrated a postseason OT victory was when David Desharnais scored the winner against the San Jose Sharks in the first round of the 2017 playoffs.
That is a long time to wait for such a special moment, and the roof nearly exploded off the arena when the puck hit the back of the net. Draisaitl told TNT how much it meant to score that goal in front of the Oilers faithful. “It’s loud in here.
.. every night is like that,” Draisaitl said.

may have had all the confidence in the world after taking a 2-0 series lead, a gutsy Game 3 Oilers victory and a come-from-behind Game 4 OT winner have flipped everything on its head. All the pressure will now be on the Kings to prevent an Oilers comeback. That will be very hard to do with players like Leon Draisaitl firing on all cylinders.
