LOWELL — Police responded to a single-vehicle crash on Moore Street near Whidden Street late Tuesday afternoon, finding a severed utility pole with electrical wires strewn across the roadway. At the center of the wreckage was a red sedan with a crushed front end and its driver nowhere to be found. Just after 4:30 p.
m., multiple calls were placed to emergency dispatch reporting the wreck. Responding officers observed wires draped over the totaled vehicle.
Police learned on scene that the woman who had been driving the car had fled on foot, heading toward Lawrence Street. The Lowell Police said on Friday that officers conducted an investigation and identified the alleged driver, though they have not released her identity. Police said that they have submitted criminal charges against the woman for leaving the scene of a collision with property damage and operating a motor vehicle without a license.
