Gurgaon: As the city witnesses rising temperatures, it also gears up to face a surge in demand for water. Areas like Sector 4, Sector 7, New Colony, Ashok Vihar, Jacobpura, Adarsh Nagar, and Palam Vihar Extension are struggling daily, with residents carrying buckets and waiting in lines in front of water tankers, hoping to collect enough to cover their basic needs. This is the situation even as a new 100 MLD (million litres per day) capacity water treatment plant was recently opened in the city.
Despite claims made by the administration that it would help in solving the city's water crisis, the plant's benefits are yet to reach the common man, residents said. To address the situation in Jacobpura and Adarsh Nagar, ward number 27 councillor Ashish Gupta arranged for water tankers and ensured door-to-door delivery of the resource.
However, fixes like this remain temporary and are insufficient to solve the whole city's problem. Sanjeev Malik, a resident of Sector 9A, said he runs his motor every morning, but to no avail. "Sometimes, we have to send our kids to school without giving them a bath," he added.
Ruchi Rana from Palam Vihar Extension said water was supplied to their area only twice last week. "We had to wait for long hours in line even if we book water tankers," she said. While water shortages are common every summer, locals claim that the situation has become more severe this year due to erratic temperatures.
Several RWAs have also raised concerns. OP Kukreja, executive member of Sector 4 RWA, filed a complaint with the municipal authorities, saying that they haven't received regular water supply in months..
