Pune: Two thieves attempted to steal cash from an ATM of a leading private bank at Bhelekar Vasti in Manjri around 3am on April 17, but fled after the emergency siren went off. Senior inspector Sanjay Mogle of the Hadapsar police said, "Two men were breaking the ATM panel with a sharp weapon when the siren started buzzing." The bank's control room in Mumbai received an alert and informed the local police.
A police team reached the spot within 10 minutes, but the suspects had already escaped. An alert passerby also informed the police about the attempted theft. "We are analysing the CCTV footage to establish their identity, and we hope to detect the case at the earliest," Mogle said.
Although police checked nearby commercial establishments for additional footage, the ATM's isolated location limited surveillance coverage..
