Dynamo Gym has been named The Argus's gym of the year for the second successive year. The friendly and supportive strength-training gym, which is based in Davigdor Road, near Seven Dials in Hove, is run by husband and wife team, Ben and Cat who started Dynamo Gym in 2021. They told us: "We couldn’t be happier to have won.

We were very pleasantly surprised to have been voted as Your Favourite Gym for the second year in a row. "It feels amazing to know we have so much support behind what we’re doing. "Winning this award feels like a celebration not just of our gym, but of the wonderful community that has been born out of it.

Ben and Cat have more than 25 years of combined experience in the fitness industry, and bring a unique blend of expertise. Ben is a qualified physiotherapist with a background in sport and exercise science, while Cat comes from an NHS mental health background with experience in health promotion, and supporting disabled adults They said that conventional gyms can sometimes feel unsafe or unwelcoming, and so they have designed Dynamo Gym to be intentionally non-intimidating. There are no mirrors in the gym, to reduce distractions and body comparisons, and there are only ever six members in at a time and a coach is always on hand for support and guidance.

They also offer free “get to know the gym” sessions for anyone who feels anxious or lacking the confidence about getting started. They employ a weight-neutral approach to fitness: rather than focusing on weight loss, they emphasise overall health and wellbeing, with accessible programmes for individuals of all sizes. They explained: "At Dynamo Gym, our approach is built on expert guidance, personalisation, and community support.

When coming to our gym, you’re not just training—you’re joining a community committed to strength, inclusivity, and empowerment. "To serve our goal of introducing more people to strength training, we’re running monthly “Sunday Sessions” where we open up our gyms to the public and invite them to come and have free coached session with us. "Our primary aim of these is to demystify the gym environment, offer guidance around exercise, and encourage everyone to take up strength training in a way that is sustainable to them.

"We now offer physiotherapy out of the gym, supporting people to restore movement and function after injury, illness, or disability and provide education to improve mobility, reduce pain, and enhance overall well-being.".
