Electronic Arts Inc. (EA), the company behind Apex Legends, The Sims series, and the FIFA series video games, is laying off between 300 to 400 employees, including about 100 at the company's Respawn Entertainment studio, according to a recent report by Bloomberg News. As per the report, based on information from a person familiar with the matter, alongside the job cuts, EA has also cancelled an upcoming 'Titanfall' game that was being developed by Respawn.

"As part of our continued focus on our long-term strategic priorities, we've made select changes within our organisation that more effectively align teams and allocate resources in service of driving future growth," an EA spokesperson told Reuters in an email, as per a recent report. Respawn Entertainment confirmed in a post on X (formerly Twitter) that it is stepping away from two early-stage projects while continuing work on 'Apex Legends' and the 'Star Wars Jedi' series, adds the Reuters report. "The next chapter of the 'Star Wars Jedi' series is aiming to raise the bar again for storytelling and gameplay," the studio said.

As of March 2024, EA had about 13,700 employees worldwide, with 66% based outside the US, according to the Reuters report. The layoffs follow a lowered annual bookings forecast in January, attributed to the weaker-than-expected performance of 'FC 25' (formerly 'FIFA') and the new 'Dragon Age' game amid economic uncertainty. No further details were provided on the cancelled 'Titanfall' project, which had not been officially announced, states the Bloomberg report.

EA has not yet publicly commented on whether more job cuts are expected. Electronic Arts Inc.
