1 2 3 Pune: Ambegaon police are searching for three young men, who allegedly murdered an eatery owner, Shubham Chavan (26), near his house at Santoshnagar in Katraj around 4.30am on Sunday in a fallout of a land dispute between the victim and one of the assailants. Police have identified the assailants, and four teams have been formed to nab them.
Police said the suspects used bamboo, a stump, and a wooden plank to attack Chavan, who died of injuries to his chest, head, and hands. The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday when Chavan stepped out of his house to see off a friend who had been to his house for an overnight stay. Senior inspector Sharad Zine of Ambegaon police told TOI, "The Chavan family are involved in a dispute over a three-guntha land at Santoshnagar with one of the assailants, who stays nearby, and they were at loggerheads for the last few years.
It is an old land dispute, and none of the parties have managed to settle the issue," Zine said. Zine said, "Chavan was walking back to his home after seeing off his friend when the assailants ran towards him and stopped him. Chavan tried to run away but the trio chased and attacked him.
We suspect the trio kept a watch on Chavan's movements since Saturday night. One of the attackers has a criminal history. We have already scanned Santoshnagar area, and our teams have visited the residences of the suspects, but they are on the run," he said.
