Ed Benedict Park in East Portland opens its renovated playground including new equipment and drainage upgrades.

East Portland's Ed Benedict Park is welcoming families and fitness enthusiasts to its newly revamped playground. Portland Parks & Recreation (PP&R) announced the completion of a series of improvements, including replacing old equipment and upgrading stormwater drainage at the SE 100th Avenue and Powell Blvd location, as reported by the City of Portland. The 13-acre park caters to more than 1,600 households and has been an underserved area with limited access to parks and natural areas.

The upgrades boast a range of play structures that cater to various age groups. Young children around ages two to four can now enjoy a new climbing boulder, while those aged five to 12 have access to slides, a tightrope bridge, multiple climbing panels, a bongo panel, a pipe barrier, swings, and spinners, as detailed by the City of Portland. The improvements were funded through the bureau's limited major maintenance allocation, and General Fund dollars, as well as assistance from the Portland Parks Foundation, which helps garner private donations to enhance city playgrounds.

Additional features recently added to Ed Benedict Park include a Portland Loo restroom in 2018 and upcoming pathway work aimed at boosting accessibility this summer..
