Waverley Court, located on Market Street , is the headquarters of the City of Edinburgh Council. In a finance and resources committee meeting, councillors voted on whether to grant approval to the BTP for a ten-year lease on the space.

The council also approved a five-year license of occupation to government agency Creative Scotland. Waverley Court. (C) Google Maps.

Waverley Court has over 1,600 workstations and 60 touchdown desks, extending over 16,560 square metres. An accompanying document for the meeting states that: “Following the Covid-19 pandemic and a move to hybrid working practices, occupancy levels within Waverley Court remain low.” The council therefore planned to lease around 444 square metres of courtyard space to the BTP for ten years, at £95,500 per annum.

They were also looking to allow Creative Scotland to occupy 60 desks within the building for five years, with rent at £111,600 per annum. It was stated in the meeting that this would add up to approximately 40% of the building space being rented out and therefore unusable by the council, though councillors acknowledged that there are alternative buildings across the city which can be used to work in. Waverley Court is already being used by companies such as SEPA, Visit Scotland, Skills Development Scotland and Balfour Beatty, with Scottish Water due to move in later this year.

Councillor Mandy Watt, finance and resources convener, said: “We’re looking forward to welcoming Creative Scotland and the BTP into Waverley Court , which is quickly becoming a true partnership hub, with organisations from all sides of the public sector joining forces to make greater use of the space and share expertise. “By welcoming these organisations in, we are generating significant income for the council and making sure our headquarters are operated in the most sustainable, efficient, and collaborative way.” Related Tags British Transport Police edinburgh creative scotland Edinburgh City Council edinburgh council lease Waverley Court Share Facebook Twitter Pinterest WhatsApp Linkedin Previous article Edinburgh council could ask wealthy residents to chip in on city projects Next article Locals report surge in appearances of plastic ducks across Edinburgh Related Stories Residents in Dumbiedykes high rise unable to leave their flats for days due to TWO broken lifts April 30, 2025 Conservation group accuses Edinburgh council for overzealous grass cutting on Calton Hill April 25, 2025 Seven Edinburgh community councils forced to close due to insufficient interest April 23, 2025 Edinburgh Fife hovercraft link now in the hands of Fife Council following feasibility study April 16, 2025 News by Email Email Top Stories Business News Scottish News Top Sports News Sponsored post customers By continuing, you accept the privacy policy About Deadline News Suite 6, Bonnington Bond, 2 Anderson Place, Edinburgh EH6 5NP Tel: 0131 516 3433 Useful Links Agency Terms and Conditions Write for us – guest posting opportunities on Deadline News and more Sponsored Posts T&C News Coverage Photography Video Services Student placement programme Contact Us Change privacy settings Privacy settings history Revoke consents Social Facebook Linkedin Twitter Youtube.
