Earlier this month, representative from Marshall University visited the Wyngate at RiversEdge in Rome Township, where they took part in a presentation of art made by residents at the senior living facility. The “Life Bouquets,” which were themed to something dear to the seniors’ lives, were made as part of a six-week class, offered through Marshall’s fine arts department and coordinated by a teaching artist. In addition to giving the residents a project and activity, the class also had a research component, with participants interviewed before and after, to see the impact it had on them.
The workshop was paid through a geriatric research grant and, any positive benefits will be recorded. The aim is to provide data to justify further grants to provide activities to seniors. As those who took part in the sessions testified, the activities brought positivity to their day and gave them something to focus on.
The Wyngate was one of six facilities in the Tri-State to take part in the program. We applaud those at the facility, as well as Marshall, who made it possible and hope it leads to more bright projects in the future. The post Editorial: Bringing positivity to days of many appeared first on The Tribune.
