NWS El Paso issues wind and dust advisories for Southern New Mexico and Far West Texas with potential visibility hazards.

The National Weather Service in El Paso has issued wind and blowing dust advisories for the region, affecting both Southern New Mexico and Far West Texas. As announced early this morning, these advisories are set to take place from 11 AM to 8 PM MDT today, with warnings of visibility dropping between one-quarter and one mile in places due to blowing dust. In addition, wind gusts are expected to reach dangerously high speeds of up to 50 mph.

NWS El Paso advises residents that the conditions might severely impact driving and suggests securing outdoor objects to prevent damage or accidents.Amid these warnings, the Weather Service cautions that "visibility to near zero" could occur suddenly. It advises drivers to pull off the road as far as possible and put their vehicle in park if they encounter blowing dust.

The service also underscores the importance of turning off all vehicle lights and keeping one's foot off the brake pedal to maintain safety under these conditions. This 'Pull Aside, Stay Alive' strategy aims to reduce the risks associated with such weather events, according to the National Weather Service.Furthermore, a red flag warning has also been declared, reflecting the heightened risk of wildfire in the region.

This critical warning remains valid from noon until 8 PM MDT today, as low relative humidity ranging from five to ten percent combined with the forecasted gusty winds creates optimal conditions for rapid fire spread. Outdoor burning during this period is strongly discouraged to prevent potential fire outbreaks..
